About Us
Tanya Nermerich, M.Cl.Sc., R.CASLPO
Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts – Psychology from the University of Waterloo and a Masters of Clinical Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Western Ontario. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, Tanya has experience working with children and adolescents with Down syndrome as well as preschool children with speech and language delays.
Tanya takes a total language approach in her therapy sessions; she incorporates the use of sign language, picture symbols and other augmentative communication devices as needed. She feels strongly about providing a family centered environment which includes discussing goals and strategies with parents and caregivers as well as having them observe therapy sessions. Tanya believes that children learn best through play and emphasizes this in her sessions which target language comprehension and expression, articulation and social skills.
Tanya has been a presenter at professional conferences and workshops. Topics include: Helping the Child with Down Syndrome Succeed in the Classroom, Successful Strategies for Inclusion, Speak Up – providing teachers with activities to promote speech and language development in the classroom, Baby Signs Early Childhood Educator Training, Baby Signs Parent Workshops.
Tanya became a baby sign language instructor with The Baby Signs® Program in May 2010. She has experienced the wonders of signing through her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist as well as signing with her own children. Prior to starting her own business, Tanya worked as a speech-language pathologist at KidsAbility in Waterloo, ON and at The PREP Program (a centre for children and teens with Down syndrome) in Calgary, AB.
